Active Community member and friend Forest Student was sentenced today for events alleged to have happened on May Day 2008 in Oly Washington.


Forest took a Alfred plea bargain (saying he didn't do it but is pleading guilty because there is a chance he would loose in court and he couldn't take that chance.) Pleading a Felony and a gross misdemeanor down to two gross misdemeanors. Forest's plea does not implicate anyone else


The court said that Forest ran along side someone who stole a cops cell phone and then tried to traded cloths with this person.

Forest denies this.

Forest maintains that he was running away from a cop who had pointed a gun at him.


At the sentencing Forest told the judged that he was a stable person, married and has a lease on a house. He talked about the work he does for his communities, including but not limited to sexual assault prevention.

Forest lawyer asked the judge not to sentence Forest harder because he was protesting when the arrest happened and asked that the judge not silence and sentence political dissent.

Which is what the judge did.

For two gross misdemeanors Forest Student of Olympia WA was sentenced to 60 Days in jail.

Forest was arrested for political reasons, charged for political reasons, convicted for political reasons, and sentenced for political reasons.

Forest will be serving the time via work release which means he has to sleep at the jail every night for 60 consecutive days and will only be allowed out during the day to go to work.

Forest has 30 days to start his jail time.


Forest is an active community member in Oly WA. He works in support of anti-imperialist struggles, sexual assault prevention/destroying rape culture, is active in port militarization resistance, organizes against police and police violence and is an active member of the NW queer and trans community. Forest is also a trained street medic, a lover, a friend, a housemate, kind to children and animals, a great cook, a good neighbor and an all around good person to be around.

Forest has court fees (totaling $700) to cover and rent while he is in jail. If you can at all support monetarily it would be greatly appreciated. If you can not your kind words and thoughts will be cherished just as much.

Well, for any of you who were wondering what happened to me, I'm in St Paul writing from the convergence space. Got in last night on Greyhound. Cops detained me and questioned me while I was downtown. Nervous as fuck. Convergence center raided by SWAT teams with guns, along with activist houses. 100 detained. Too nervous for complete sentences. Ok, done bye love.

So, yeah, I quit my job. I work through June, but after that I'm done. I thought it was going to be a job where I learn things. Instead, I get jack shit done, and often just sit in the box office. All we ever get to do is occasionally fix a light or patch some mikes, if we're lucky. Urrrrgh. I like having the money, but it's not worth it.

Activist tackled and arrested for wearing a mask

It doesn't make you look cool, tough, etc, and it's going to get you nabbed. The feds are going to find out who you are anyway, so don't throw up a red flag by wearing a mask outside of a Bloc.

Whole Earth: Meh. Not as good as last year, when everyone was there and staying at my house. Anarcho-party. This year hella people didn't show, or had to go to prom or something. It was hella cool going to DQU again. It's amazing: There's an autonomous zone just miles outside of Davis. Zapatista village. Hehe. Almost. It's hella funny how the county put up three signs on the way there: "DQ University Ahead." "Warning: You are approaching DQ University" You Are Now Entering Free Davis, anyone? Bogside ain't got shit on us.

I can't really say that much, because I'm still getting over the shock. I didn't think it would actually ever happen, but in a way it's better that it did.

Torch protests were big. I don't see how people thought that we were outnumbered by pro-China demonstrators. I will say this, though: Before the rally, I had at least sympathy for them. Not anymore. They were up to all kinds of shit: Attacking pro-Tibetans with their huge ass red flags, carrying pictures of Mao, chanting "Tibet will always be part of China" Fuck them. Apparently, at one point, a group of UCD chinese students surrounded a car of Tibetans and tried to tip it over. Fucking brownshirts.

The SFPD changed the route at the last minute. At one point, demonstrators managed to surround the bus, but we got cleared off, and the torch got moved. They took it way the fuck around away from the Embarcadero.

FUCKING HARDCORE: One of the runners pulled a Tibetan flag and got tackled by the Chinese robo-cops guarding the torch. WOO.
